Humiliate him. No mercy!
-
What do you see when you look at the majority of people’s lives?
Since you’re here, can I rightly think it’s not quite the kind of life you want?
Would I be right to assume you want better results for yourself – and those you care about?
-
But have you ever noticed that your brain makes you do similar things to what “everybody else does”?
Welcome to the fight of your life:
Anxious Devil vs. Bold Angel.
-
Hey, admit it…
Intuitively, you already know you can’t fool with our old friend Mother Cause And Effect.
That if you emulate what average people do, you’ll get average results.
But your inner Anxious Devil’s job is to protect you from what it perceives as a risk.
And being different can be a pretty scary prospect.
So your Anxious Devil makes you avoid what others think is foolish or impossible.
Nasty thing!
-
So how do you give courage and power to your Bold Angel – to fight “common wisdom”?
How can you stop procrastinating? How to get organized? How can you focus to get things done? So you get a “better-than-common” life. Have your own profitable small business. Achieve financial freedom. Or whatever your vision of a fulfilling life is for you…
-
Okay, okay, I know I sound like a broken record…
Once again, I recommend you practice self-observation.
Of your thoughts. Decisions. And actions.
Become aware of your own counterproductive habits, limiting beliefs, lack of clarity in your objectives.
-
If you only ever take one action as a result of reading this blog… Make it to form the habit of consciously observing your thoughts and actions.
Your inner Anxious Devil will be against it of course.
So go ahead. Kick your Anxious Devil’s butt off – every time he shows up.
Go for it… Prove him wrong. Embarrass him. Humiliate him so much he won’t want to show his face again. No mercy!

Care more than others think is wise.

Expect more than others think is possible.”

Bissel’s quote is one of my favorites. However, I was not able to get over procratination and self-sabotage til I listened to Kevins tapes Lifestorms. Now I force everyone I care about to listen to them. I mean it….force them!!!!I just dont think you can achieve anything til you deal wit your past.

Sonya, I completely agree. I think Lifestorms is one of Kevin’s most life-changing programs. I actually force myself to go through it about once a year.
Yann ,
Great post. As I understand it the subconscious perceives “change” as “threat” to the status quo and will do what is needed to bring one back to “safety”. I agree: if awareness is not the whole key, it is certainly a major step in the right direction.

I find one of the sort of secondary characteristics is
what do you do in your “leisure” time?
watch tv/dvds/movies?
or
read. stimulate your creativity. study small businesses. put up a website. attend some conferences. speak in public. write.
I’m the latter. The former bores me to tears. And I DO enjoy the occasion slug day. Just not EVERY day.
The people with JOBS are seeking escape from that in the TV watching.
I don’t have that with what I do as an entrepreneur business owner.
Btw, YES, that characteristic is on MY DATING CRITERIA
it’s essential for our lives to meld together.

well i’m on the right track i think. i’m pretty sure i have a tv…somewhere. i think it’s in the living room.
I recently asked a long time client to text or email since when she gets me on the phone she takes up nearly an hour. The reward of productive time recovered was worth the risk of upseting a client.

Yann,
Great post! A good reminder that thinking out of the box and going again the crowd can sometimes feel uncomfortable. Yet those who excel are generally those for whom conformity thinking is unimportant.
Great quote.

My anxious devil is constantly after me, and I do my best to ignore him, but it is easy to develop bad habits. It is hard to procrastinate during this course and so easy to fall behind if you do. Thanks for the reminders, I need them constantly!

Love the quote. We really must be the constant witness of ourselves. But witnessing is often not enough. It is a trememdous foundation. It is difficult to engage in unskilfull behavior when we are watching and conscious of it.
